Fertilia, a small village in Sardinia founded during the Italian Fascist regime, has always been characterized as a city of Italian immigrants. Today, as a way of saying thank you for being welcomed, Saharan and sub-Saharan refugees have decided to help with the recovery of a degraded park and to build public facilities as a gift for the community.

The building is 25 sqm classroom in a dome shape, built to host Syrian and Jordanian children in Za’atari village. Located just outside of the Za’atari refugee camp, 10 km from the Syrian border, Za’atari village is currently home to 15,000 Syrians and 13,000 Jordanians.

Partner: Lumanti Support Group for Shelter
Area: 55 sqm
Year: 2019

This open pavilion faces one of the main temples within the village. The aim of the project was to combine traditional materials (timber, bricks) and type of space (patii) with an unusual design. Creating and building the project involved the locals at every stage.
