Supporting Development of Urban Cycling in Cuba

Location: Havana, Cuba
Partner: Various
Supported by: CISU – Civilsamfund i Udvikling
Year: 2023

Supported by CISU, EAHR and our local partners concluded the project ‘Supporting Development of Urban Cycling in Cuba’. The project was designed to address four key issues:
1) enhance living conditions for selected groups of residents in three vulnerable and poor urban areas in Havana, Cuba.
2) Promote cycling and cycling infrastructure more generally.
3) Developing a new methodology to enhance cycling by introducing ‘running bicycles’ (løbecykler) for children in the age 3-5.
4) Sharing insights from Denmark’s long experience with cycling.
The project spanned across three-year period and despite challenges caused by monetary policies and depreciation in Cuba and the limitations imposed by the global pandemic the project was successfully completed and with much appreciation among our international partners.
