Fertilia, a small village in Sardinia founded during the Italian Fascist regime, has always been characterized as a city of Italian immigrants. Today, as a way of saying thank you for being welcomed, Saharan and sub-Saharan refugees have decided to help with the recovery of a degraded park and to build public facilities as a gift for the community.

Listening to the needs and desires of the community, who expressed their discontent regarding the lack of public seating in the park area, EAHR co-created a sustainable bench made out of soil bags where a hundred people can be closer to each other. The result was a circular bench, 20 meters in diameter, which fosters a strong sense of community. “The children nest” While cleaning the most degraded part of the park, a Guinean refugee called Mamadu suggested using an antique African construction technique with the residual materials of the park. Becoming the chief of construction, he led the community in the creation of a sustainable traditional African hut as a fantasy house for kids.
